Oh, Benjamin Franklin, you never cease to amaze me… Your pros and cons method of decision making is elegant, utilitarian, and rational. In your letter to Joseph Priestley, you outlined this method for making difficult decisions.
Lefty guitarist Duane Allman has one of the best sounds and styles in classic rock, but he played right handed. I think there is a significant boost to the left hand if one is left handed.
Also, Duane was in fact left-handed, despite playing the guitar as if right handed. This added strength in his fretting hand gave him a greater degree of control when bending notes or adding vibrato, plus it meant that his picking hand was not quite as strong, seeming to give him a very light touch. Listen to the version of Dreams from the debut album for an example of his extraordinary control over slow bends and slow vibrato. This also gave him added strength and dexterity with his pinky on his fretting hand.

I finally had a chance to read “Connective Tissue,” produced and edited by UTHSCSA health profession students, and was surprised by the talent found there. My favorite was “These shall remain,” a poem by Tyler Jorgensen comparing color produced by “electrons falling down” to the inevitable return from summer vacation experiences.
Elsewhere among the myriad of photographs, poems, digital art and stories, a statement by Julie Berry Wibskov about “Jomiman,” an ode to her husband’s vitality and magical wonder at life. From the poem:
For him the raw nerve that shoots down his back
In a bolt is as real as his sense of connection,
Of letdown, as real as the promise God made
Him while dreaming. And all are surprising, by chance.

In this poem I tried to capture the essence of my best friend, my husband–his unhindered approach to the world and the inner life that fuels that. He was born with a rare generosity and openness that draws others in, and, yet, privately has endured many struggles that test this spirit. The way he has stepped out in faith when life is cruel is a testimony to the genuineness of his nature. The way he nurtures his blessings when life is magical and showers me with endless love is a daily inspiration. Old challenges and burdens are often exchanged for new ones, and they are reminders that we’re not really in charge. But much more powerful than the burdens is the fire for what gives us joy, the hope that we’ll have joy someday or the gratitude that we have it now. Being able to celebrate throughout anything means knowing how much worse it could be and how miraculous it is to be living our lives.
