Circling the Pawn
I wonder if there is a precise name for the change in defensive strategy once a pawn nears the final rows. And how then does that pawn “feel”? As a pawn, the journey is not expected to be glamorous, but when one has the finish line in sight, is the fear of death not greater than when it is hardly on the horizon?
A good psychological thriller might utilize the notion of a shift in personal purpose, coupled with a newfound fear of being singled out and targeted, especially, as a threat.
If the players are to represent good and evil, then why shouldn’t a pawn anticipate retribution in “fear”? The fear is greatest at two points: when one becomes committed to a journey and when the end is in sight.
